OD&D House Rules for 2023

Very busy with life lately so I haven't posted in a while. Thinking about running FKR games using OD&D as a universal engine for gritty, "materialist" adventure gaming in a variety of settings, from fantasy to science-fiction or modern day horror and investigation scenarios. Weird Writer posited that one could use OD&D for Horror here and I'm a big proponent of re-skinning vs writing more rules. Plus, I'm pretty sure either Volume 1 or 3 has a few words to say about not needing to make up new rules for different worlds. If you want a more heroic game, give PCs "Hero level" abilities, so 4d6 maximum HP, and +2 to both attack rolls and saving throws. I would not suggest using "Superhero level" tier of abilities, ie: 8d6 HP, +5 to both attack rolls and saving throws, as while whiffing will be minimized, drawn-out fights with slowly dwindling HP are boring as fuck. Click the image to embiggen, failing that, right-click and open in a new tab should display the full sized.
